Fuck - Warning: Lots of Swearing

Yeah, that's right. This post is semi-inspired by Chase, I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate me using his name for this post, but I'm sure he'll understand. Just in case, Chase is a really nice man who doesn't use foul language. But I do. In fact, my second word was asshole but I guess I blame that on my foul mouthed step-sisters who were around when I was growing up.

I used to swear so much as a child, fuck this, fuck that, you fucking asshole this, donkey ball licker cunt face that. Was I bad in English? No. I won various English language awards in my day, some international competitions, I wrote poetry used in plays, I read classical novels from a very young age, was in drama and a variety of plays, one musical, joined debating in junior college however admittedly failed miserably because I can't speak publicly without melting into the floor. Does this sound like a person who has been deemed the most foul-mouthed person most of her friends have met? No, but I'm not the only one.

I have met countless of writers and literary scholars who swear just as much as I do yet are perfectly capable of formulating beautiful sonnets and plays. People who would describe literature as sculptures of the mind, who dazzle you with their literary genius and leave you breathless after reading their imagery. Are they deemed less worthy of anyone's respect just because they decide to use the word "fuck"? Sometimes you need to swear, because that is the only way you can truly expression your frustration and anger in all its colourful glory.

I can say, I'm so livid with anger or I'm extremely infuriated with this person but I'm sure the impact will be stronger if I tell you that I'm so mother fucking infuriated that I could rip his fucking balls off. Why should we view bad language as anything else besides what it is, just words. Language came about through the need to express ideas and communicate, why is colourful language given such a horrible stigma? Of course, I understand that this is my opinion and that not everyone agrees, which is fine.

Although I have to say, calling someone a steaming pile of excrement gives you some sort of superiority complex.

Q-tip is a legendary rapper from the group A Tribe Called Quest. He has a line in one song that always stuck with me. He said, “Occasionally I curse to get my point across.”

Perhaps swearing is necessary at times. I don’t know exactly where I stand on this topic. If someone hardly ever swears, when they do it really makes an impact. If someone swears all the time, it really doesn’t mean anything.

Still, I think most of us can probably clean up our speech significantly. It’s just something to think about. There is probably a time and place for colourful language. I just don’t know when it is.

And it’s cool you wrote a post inspired by mine and gave me credit. Thanks! Although, I try to model good language.

Hahaha, I don't know, I normally test the waters by saying "shit". It's normally a really good judge.

Still, my philosophy is that there are many other things in life that require my attention besides swearing. I don't treat anyone who swears more than me differently, as long as their content is worth listening to.

Don't thank me, it's the years of university education that have ingrained referencing in me. Evil, evil bastards.
