Exams
They are so NOT an accurate depiction of learning. Come on, think about it, you're never holed up in a situation where you need to apply about 60 billion things in the space of 3 hours. Sure you need some sort of test but I'd say that learning in a working environment is better. As in, wouldn't it be more accurate if we got work placement as the last semester of uni or something? Think about it, instead of being put in an unrealistic situation where people cram for a few days prior to the exam, shouldn't you be put into a working environment and separation from the stupid is based on application in real life situations.
I reckon a more companies should "sponsor" student education. If we do this, students will be able to learn realistically. We all know as soon as we graduate, we're going to do monkey jobs anyway and the most complex thing I'll get to do is a freaking PCR reaction and getting coffee for the first year anyway. Why prolong the suffering? Instead, students are put into unrealistic situations doing experiments that are at least 20 years old, having to cram a billion things during exam period and THEN graduating and doing things a trained monkey can do.
Yes, first stages of exam-cramming period bitching.

I feel the same way about report cards. They seem like they really miss the point. But it's hard to find an alternative that will satisfy people. So I seem to be stuck with unit tests and report cards and you're stuck with exams. Stuck!
